Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan stated that individuals who do not have any change in their disability status (disabled) are forced to enter the drug board every year in order to receive medicines from the state, and said that the drug board torture of disabled individuals should be ended.

Dr. Ahmet Savaşan He drew attention to the fact that the fact that individuals with no change in their disability status (disabled) are forced to undergo the drug board every year in order to receive medicines from the state not only creates additional obstacles for these special individuals, but also imposes a significant and unnecessary burden on doctors and the health system.

“WE ARE BEHIND GLOBAL PRACTICES”

During the visit, he emphasized that one of the most important duties of the state is to ensure that disabled individuals can benefit from health services in full and equal conditions. Ahmet Savaşan, “Health is the most fundamental human right acquired at birth. When we look at our country today, we see that disabled people have been inadequate in accessing health services for years and / or lagging behind the practices in the world in functioning.”.

“WE MUST TAKE THE STEPS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TAKEN SO FAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE”

Stating that it is an inevitable necessity to improve the outdated practices in the TRNC, both in the grading of congenital and acquired disabilities, in the renewal of the board reports needed by individuals whose disability status does not change in order to receive salaries or cars and equipment, and especially in the renewal of the drug board, by looking at contemporary examples in the world as soon as possible. Ahmet Savaşan, emphasized that as soon as possible, the torture of the disabled people's drug board should be ended.

Savaşan said, “We must take the steps that could not be taken for many years due to lack of financial resources and political instability. Prime Minister Unal Üstel’s sensitivity on this issue and the fact that he has put the initiatives related to the disabled on the list of things to be done in a short time is promising. We are determined to keep these issues on the agenda and to contribute to these issues.”.

“WE SHOULD APPLY THE CORRECT AND FRUITFUL EXAMPLES IN THE WORLD IN OUR COUNTRY”

Pointing out that Sweden brought a new vision to disability policy in the 2000s with the slogan ’from patient to citizen“, Savaşan said: ”As is known, for many years, disability was seen as a “patient problem“ all over the world. Sweden and a few other countries, on the other hand, saw it as a democracy and human rights issue and determined their policies as citizenship, equality and full participation. Although this perception has changed in developed countries, there are still a majority of countries that have not changed. The fact that this perception has not yet changed in our country is the biggest obstacle in front of our disabled people. There is no need to rediscover Sweden. We should examine the correct and fruitful examples in the world and apply them in our country with a participatory approach.”.
